Frodo Encounters Elves in the Shire

Not Many High-Elves Remain

1/31/2K7

"Not many now remain in Middle-earth"

-- Frodo, of High-Elves (Fellowship, p. 89)

Elves in the Shire

Supernatural providence finds expression in that Elves came along as one of the Black Riders was drawing near the Hobbits.

It is part of the expression that the type of Elf that came along was exceedingly rare.

A meeting with an Elf was rare. A meeting with a High-Elf even more so.

"Not many now remain in Middle-earth" (Fellowship, p. 89).
