"But you have been chosen"

-- Gandalf, to Frodo (Fellowship, p. 70)

Frodo with the Ring

Supernatural providence finds expression in Frodo inheriting the Ring.

Gandalf explained to Frodo that he was meant to have the Ring. While Frodo does not doubt Gandalf's word, he nevertheless asks why.

Gandalf doesn't know why. Nonetheless it is true: "But you have been chosen" (Fellowship, p. 70).
