First there was the $500 PC, then the $500 laptop.
No, wait, first there was the $1,000 PC. No. First there were really expensive PCs, then the $1,000 PC. Then the $500 PC.
$500 notebooks aren’t that big a deal. The industry is moving below $500 notebooks. It’s more than just the costs of notebooks.
There’s notebooks and then there’s ultra-portable notebooks. Notebooks themselves are getting smaller and smaller.
Transistors will run cooler, thanks to high-k metal/gate technology.
Hard drives are to be replaced by solid-state NAND flash drives which can be alot smaller.
Transistors keep shrinking.
And then there will be new types of devices. Smaller computing devices. We’re not sure who’s going to win in all of this. It could be Intel-Architecture cores. Or maybe NVIDIA will cook up something new. Or maybe ARM shall stay entrenched.
