X38 Launch Date Pushed Out

The launch date for the X38 chipset has been pushed out to October 10, something that has to do with the BIOS microcode.

The delay brings the launch of the X38 to within about a month of the the launch of Penryn, Intel’s first 45-nm processors. Penryn shall be launched in server and desktop flavors on November 12.

The launch of Penryn also coincides with the launch of the 1600-MHz front-side bus (FSB) on the desktop. Servers and workstations already support up to 1600 MHz.

Desktop motherboards capable of running the FSB at 1600 MHz require a new voltage regulation module (VRM).
