Fifth Generation Xserve
The fifth generation of Xserve ousted Lenovo and Langchao to clinch for Apple the number ten spot among server makers in the first quarter.
Apple grew its server numbers by 73%. Worldwide server shipments sank 11%.
However, it is unlikely that the coming Intel price cuts on July 22 had anything to do with the decrease in server shipments in the first quarter. The price cuts have only recently been known, for one thing. It is more likely that the April price cuts of both AMD and Intel had something to do with the decreased shipments. These price cuts were known weeks or maybe even months in advance.
Hard drive manufacturers, too, reported soft sales in March because of the April price cuts to CPUs.
