Intel Core 2 Microprocessor Delay

6/29 - Intel may be pushing back the date for the launch of Core 2 processors (from July 23 to July 27), but the company shall also release some chipsets along with it, namely the G965 and the Q963.

That's the Q963 chipset, not the Q965. The Q965 is not to debut until later, in September, as part of the vPro product platform launch for business PCs. Even though the Q963 is not the same as the Q965, nor part of the vPro launch, the Q963 chipset is nevertheless also for business PCs.

The G965 is for integrated graphics. You can think of the G in G965 as standing for graphics.

The Core 2 processors that shall be released, on July 27, are the X6800, E6300, E6400, E6600, and E6700. These processors, and the G965 & Q963 chipsets, will release "4 days later than the original schedule<".

The original launch date for Core 2 was July 23. Instead of Core 2, a couple of other processors shall release at that time: the Pentium D 915 and 945. No relation to the 915 or 945 chipsets, by the way. Rather, these are Pentium D processors, dumbed-down versions of the Pentium D 920 and 950, it seems.

One of the features that the new Pentium D processors shall lack is VT, or Virtualization Technology.

A Celeron chip scheduled to launch in September will be the "the last Netburst product".

After that, the Celeron's replacement, in 2007, will be Conroe-L, which is a single-core Conroe.
