12/24 - 'Tis the season for giving. Yahoo! and Network for Good make giving easier with the creation of a Cyber Giving Week microsite. Cyber Giving Week runs from December 25 this year to December 31. Network for Good was founded in 2001 by AOL, Cisco, and Yahoo! The microsite features resources and tools for making contributions and for maximizing annual tax deductions. Like buying online, online donations have risen dramatically. Furthermore almost half of giving to charities takes place in December. Giving over the Internet is faster and allows people to "efficiently maximize their annual tax breaks in this last week".
It has long been known that Amazon.com sells more than just books. A pair of earrings were sold on Amazon this holiday season for $94,000. So far no single item has surpassed $100,000. The earrings represent "the sale of its highest-priced item so far this holiday season".
A (relatively) old name is in the news. CNN may top MSNBC, but MSNBC.com tops CNN.com, as well as all the other .com newsites. The Internet joint venture between Microsoft and NBC is the nation's leading cable and broadcast news website. For ten months MSNBC.com has topped all other broadcast and cable news websites. MSNBC.com has averaged "more than the combined unique visitors of ABCNews.com, CBSNews.com and FOXNews.com".
Yahoo!'s home page is "the most trafficked site on the Web".
RFID solutions are coming to the Americas from Synergex, using technology licensed from Nokia and its own RFID technology. The technology allows an enterprise's mobile field force to interact in real time, while in the field, with back-end systems back at corporate. The offerings should be available in the first quarter of 2006. Cumbersome paperwork for jobs done in he field, "items tracked, and parts used is replaced by secure and simple online interaction using an RFID-enabled device".
