12/14 - Not only is Microsoft focusing more on security these days, so is Intel. Intel is working on hardware to detect intrusions that are not caught by software, such as rootkits that have recently so successfully evaded software defenses. The technology monitors "the way operating systems and critical applications interact with hardware".
Infineon is to provide GDDR3 (graphics double data rate 3) memory for ATI's Mobile Radeon X1600. The graphics processor "targets notebook PCs".
Symantec will offer software later this month that offers zero-day protection. A zero-day exploit is an attack launched by worms, viruses, or hacking techniques before there is a cure for such attacks. The software primary uses behavior-based intrusion prevention. The product also protects applications and not just the operating system. "Symantec Critical System Protection provides zero-day protection against application and operating system attacks".
V//V is scheduled for launch in January, mass production in February. "Intel is scheduled to launch the Viiv PC platform for the digital home solution on January 9, 2006".
