NAND Flash memory may replace optical drives and media as well as hard drives. Memory maker Infineon shall increase its share in the NAND market and "regards NAND flash as a solution to replace optical disc, rather than as a substitute for HDDs".

Samsung holds the number one position in DRAM (dynamic RAM), SRAM (static RAM), and NAND Flash memory, all three. "Samsung now dominates most areas of the memory market".

Intel seems to emphasize improved support for dual-core and hyper-threading in its new 975X chipset and downplay the importance of "multiple 2x8 graphics cards".
