11/13 - More and more companies are detecting Sony's DRM as a form of malware, or at least announcing that their software already protects against it. Rootkits are sort of like the cloaking device from old Star Trek reruns. It is even possible for other software authors to take advantage of Sony's DRM to hide their own malware on users' computers. Zone Labs comments that their ZoneAlarm 6.0 line protects from the rootkit install, as well as any other attempts to "take advantage of its cloaking ability".
