11/2 - Is VMware siding with Intel? Probably not since AMD has its own virtualization technology. Nevertheless a VMWare VP came out in support of Intel's new server MP processors predicting that virtualization would be the next killer app. Processors are dual-core, hyper-threaded, and support 4 or more processors. Processors are shipping VT-ready, meaning that it is intended to only require a BIOS upgrade in the future to enable this feature. VT, or Virtualization Technology, partitions the dual-core processors so that they can run multiple operating systems, for instance. The VMWare VP declared that: "Virtualization is the killer application to harness the increased power of multi-core".
